Claire is a five-piece noise. Somewhere between a throb and a drone, sometimes very fast, occasionally very slow. Usually in \u2018E\u2019, but Claire does flirt with other notes too.<\/p>\n<p>Formed in response to the construction of Milton Keynes in 1983, you might have heard them on John Peel in session during the eighties, if not &#8211; no fear as they reformed in 2014 with the release of their long awaited 8 track LP Maxi Power Bulge. The band spend time planning how to assault the city of Milton Keynes rather than trying to write songs. The city is still young and unfinished. Metal bashing and pile-driving formed an urban soundtrack. Unformed sound<\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 20px;\"><span style=\"text-transform: uppercase; font-size: 0.9rem;\">Autumn 1984<\/span><br \/>\nClaire plan a visit the studio in Buckingham to record the first demo.<a style=\"display: block;\" href=\"https:\/\/kollapso.co.uk\/claire\/first-demo-buckingham\/\">The first demo<\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 20px;\"><span style=\"text-transform: uppercase; font-size: 0.9rem;\">Summer 1985<\/span><br \/>\nWith no opportunity to gig and rehearsal space in short supply, Ian, Ian, Andy and Peter keep planning how to create the biggest noise ever. Jason leaves and Tony J steps in to play metal. A second demo is planned, this time in Bugbrooke. <a style=\"display: block;\" href=\"https:\/\/kollapso.co.uk\/claire\/the-berlin-tour\/\">The second demo<\/a><\/div>\n<h3>1985-1987<br \/>\nEnd of the beginning<\/h3>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 20px;\"><span style=\"text-transform: uppercase; font-size: 0.9rem;\">Every Sunday and Monday night, 1985 &#8211; 1987<\/span><br \/>\nA chance conversation with the manager of The Point nightclub, Nod, leads to the opportunity for the band to secure a rehearsal space that is free of charge, large, comfortable and frankly amazing. We are left undisturbed to dedicate as much time as possible to forming a sound. This period leads to the band finding their sound whilst writing endless amounts of material. Thanks Nod! <a style=\"display: block;\" href=\"https:\/\/kollapso.co.uk\/claire\/rehearsals-at-the-point\/\">Rehearsals at the The Point<\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 20px;\"><span style=\"text-transform: uppercase; font-size: 0.9rem;\">Autumn 1986<\/span><br \/>\nThe Claire radio interview &#8211; Ian, Ian and Peter, are invited onto MK Radio to be Interviewed by Graham Dee. During this interview it seemed a good idea to invent a fictitious tour of Berlin! As well as the hype, the band also discussed the topic of power, and emotion amongst other things. <a style=\"display: block;\" href=\"https:\/\/kollapso.co.uk\/claire\/the-berlin-tour\/\">Berlin tour<\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 20px;\"><span style=\"text-transform: uppercase; font-size: 0.9rem;\">Spring 1987<\/span><br \/>\nLots of new material led to a desire to visit a studio in Buckingham again. Andy was touring with Exit Stance when the third demo was scheduled so Ian, Ian, Peter and new boy Ian decided to use a drum box for the session although Ian also filled in on drums. The product of this session was the demo tape called &#8216;Futures Looking Brighter&#8217; which was later sent to John Peel in the hope of getting commissioned to record a session for his nightly radio programme.<a style=\"display: block;\" href=\"https:\/\/kollapso.co.uk\/claire\/demo-3-buckingham\/\">Third demo<\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 20px;\"><span style=\"text-transform: uppercase; font-size: 0.9rem;\">13 May 1987<\/span><br \/>\nThe old Compass Club becomes our new rehearsal space. The Point was no longer available but with plans to re-launch the Compass Club as the Countapoint &#8211; the opposite of The Point &#8211; this seemed a great new home. Claire are invited to manage and organise the new Club. Probably not the greatest idea, but we managed to persuade other more capable people to take it on after our initial attempt and it became a very successful venue. <a style=\"display: block;\" href=\"https:\/\/kollapso.co.uk\/claire\/countapoint\/\">Countapoint nights<\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 20px;\"><span style=\"text-transform: uppercase; font-size: 0.9rem;\">14 June 1987<\/span><br \/>\nClaire record a John Peel session at the BBC Maida Vale studios. <a style=\"display: block;\">John Peel session<\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 20px;\"><span style=\"text-transform: uppercase; font-size: 0.9rem;\">Summer 1987<\/span><br \/>\nClaire gig in Bow Brickhill woods. Hundreds attend. Unfortunately a shooting occurs whilst band are on stage. <a style=\"display: block;\">Summer woodland party gig<\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 20px;\"><span style=\"text-transform: uppercase; font-size: 0.9rem;\">Summer 1987<\/span><br \/>\nDemo number 4 is recorded in Buckingham. New material is flowing fast although this session &#8211; titled &#8216;The Future Is Grim&#8217; is less optimistic. <a style=\"display: block;\">4th Demo<\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 20px;\"><span style=\"text-transform: uppercase; font-size: 0.9rem;\">02 September 1987<\/span><br \/>\nThe Pitz &#8211; Claire become the first band to play the new Milton Keynes venue. <a style=\"display: block;\">The Pitz<\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 20px;\"><span style=\"text-transform: uppercase; font-size: 0.9rem;\">03 September 1987<\/span><br \/>\nThe Five-O Club, Luton. Friends of Claire, UK Decay, organised the gig. <a style=\"display: block;\">The Five-O Club<\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 20px;\"><span style=\"text-transform: uppercase; font-size: 0.9rem;\">12 September 1987<\/span><br \/>\nClaire play Countapoint one last time. Gig attended by Mark Refoy of Spiritualised who later commented:<\/div>\n<div style=\"background-color: #8cc63f; padding: 0.5rem 1rem; border-radius: 1rem;\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: 800;\">10. Claire, The Compass Club, Bletchley 1987<\/p>\n<p>I went to see a Northampton group called The Apple Creation (Jonny Mattock on drums) support a group called Clare (sic) from Milton Keynes. Clare (sic) had a totally nuts singer who jumped onto the venue floor and pushed himself around on his back from one side of the room to the other, screaming into the mic at the same time. The band had their backs to the audience and played as if it all was completely normal. They were fantastic but I never heard of them again.
