The space at The Point eventually became unavailable and we had to find somewhere new. We knew the old Compass Club was available for band practice and so it become our new headquarters. Not long after we started using the space we were invited into a conversation with someone keen to fuel the local music scene with a new venue and a hope a local band might manage it. Tim, whose surname is unknown, sold us the idea of running a Friday night club. We book bands, get everyone to sign in, run a bar and generally manage affairs. Easy!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, I write this knowing it to be an act of self-deception. We had no idea how to run a night club. However, we had a lot of amazing friends who did most of the work from managing the door and bar to setting up sound equipment and food stalls. ‘The Buckingham Crowd’ as we affectionately referred to Mick and friends set about things like seasoned professionals. Claire headlined or supported most weeks and chose the other bands too. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Compass Club was rebranded as as the Countapoint, ie the opposite of The Point, and this was a great new local venue hosting an array of great touring bands. So, persuading competent people to run it was possibly one of the smartest things Claire ever did as ‘they’The Buckingham Crowd’ transformed The Countapoint into a very successful venue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No recordings exist of Claire at The Countapoint. A video recording was made, but someone recorded an episode of Neighbours over it! Probably just as well!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
