The John Peel Session didn’t lead to much. But Claire did receive an invitation to appear on a treble LP box set featuring a collection of published and unpublished bands. The invitation was for a free of charge recording session in a studio in Driffied, Yorkshire. We were invited to spend the evening in an apartment connected to the studio, then record all day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Obviously we accepted the invitation. Why not!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We hired a car and travelled up. Partied in the apartment the night before and recorded our newest material. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was sometime mid-afternoon when a clerical error was discovered. The label organising the event had sent the wrong letter. We should have been informed that we were expected to pay for the session, not that the whole event was free.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
An awkward situation. A stand-off too, as the label initially tried to strong arm us into paying. They changed tact once the realised we were not going to pay and would have declined the invite had we been sent the correct letter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We finished recording the songs: I’m Blank, Wife Lover Killer, Back To Basics, Forbidden Music and Woodland Party Rampage, mixed and left. Time for a change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The LP was released and featured the song I’m Blank although no one ever saw a copy. It was reported a few years later that the studio had been involved in a fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
